STRAWBERRY OATMEAL SMOOTHIE

This time of year, in some areas, it can be difficult to find strawberries that are the sweet and delicious versions you find in the summer. I’m always telling my patients it’s important to eat produce. There’s so much nutrition packed into vegetables and fruits and you can really give your body a boost of nutrition with this smoothie recipe.

Strawberries have a lot of Vitamin C, antioxidants in the form of anthocyanins, and folate. The flavonoid quercetin is naturally anti-inflammatory which can help improve symptoms associated with chronic disease. Those with high blood pressure may benefit from eating strawberries and other high-potassium containing foods to counteract the level of sodium. Lastly, the fiber content is great for keeping the digestive system on track.

 

Try this Strawberry Smoothie recipe instead of the coffee shop smoothies made with syrups to increase your intake of plants. It’s delicious and will add to the health rather than take it.

1 C Almond or Coconut Milk

¼ C Rolled Oats

½ Banana, broken

10-15 frozen strawberries

½ t vanilla extract

2 t Erythritol or 1-½ t sugar

Add ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
